Tony Robbins is the king of all self-help gurus, even though, ironically, there is a Netflix documentary about him called:
Robbins is legitimately brilliant. That’s why he’s counseled everyone from presidents to celebrities to elite athletes. He also owns and invests in a large number of businesses, has his own island, has done a staggering amount for charity (here and here are two of many examples), and is reportedly worth 600 million dollars.
It’s no secret that I’ve been a big fan of Tony Robbins' work for a long time. I’ve been to a couple of his events and yes, I did do the firewalks across hot coals and I had the blisters to prove it:
I have also listened to his tapes, watched countless hours of his videos, and read all his books. His best one is Awaken the Giant Within: How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny!, which I have given as a gift something like a half dozen times.
The man is a genius, I would strongly recommend that anyone absorb his work and these quotes will help show you why that’s the case.
30) "If you don't set a baseline standard for what you'll accept in life, you'll find it's easy to slip into behaviors and attitudes or a quality of life that's far below what you deserve."
29) "All personal breakthroughs begin with a change in beliefs. So how do we change? The most effective way is to get your brain to associate massive pain to the old belief. You must feel deep in your gut that not only has this belief cost you pain in the past, but it's costing you in the present and, ultimately, can only bring you pain in the future. Then you must associate tremendous pleasure to the idea of adopting a new, empowering belief."
28) "Remember it's not conditions, but decisions that determine our lives."
27) "Remember, if you're grateful, you can't be angry simultaneously. You can't be fearful and grateful simultaneously. It's impossible!"
26) "Whatever you focus on is what you get."
25) "Quality questions create a quality life. Successful people ask better questions, and as a result, they get better answers."
24) "If you talk about it, it’s a dream, if you envision it, it’s possible, but if you schedule it, it’s real."
23) "Contrary to popular wisdom, knowledge is not power - it’s potential power. Knowledge is not mastery. Execution is mastery. Execution will trump knowledge every day of the week."
22) "Any time you sincerely want to make a change, the first thing you must do is to raise your standards. When people ask me what really changed my life eight years ago, I tell them that absolutely the most important thing was changing what I demanded of myself. I wrote down all the things I would no longer accept in my life, all the things I would no longer tolerate, and all the things that I aspired to becoming."
21) "If you’re feeling really sad, there is only one reason: it’s because you’re deleting all the reasons you could be feeling good. And if you’re feeling good, it’s because you’re deleting all the bad things you could be focusing on."
20) "Any pattern or emotion or behavior that is continually reinforced will become an automatic and conditioned response. Anything we fail to reinforce will eventually dissipate."
19) "People are rewarded in public for what they practice for years in private."
18) "With enough emotional intensity and repetition, our nervous systems experience something as real, even if it hasn't occurred yet."
17) "Success is doing what you want to do, when you want, where you want, with whom you want, as much as you want."
16) "We don’t get our shoulds, we get our musts."
15) "Making a true decision means committing yourself to achieving a result and then cutting yourself off from any other possibility."
14) "The path of least resistance will never make you proud."
13) "We're often seduced into believing that events control our lives and that our environment has shaped who we are today. No greater lie was ever told. It's not the events of our lives that shape us, but our beliefs as to what those events mean."
12) "Repetition is the mother of all skill."
11) "Once you have mastered time, you will understand how true it is that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a year – and underestimate what they can achieve in a decade!"
10) "If we link massive pain to any behavior or emotional pattern, we will avoid indulging in it at all costs. We can use this understanding to harness the force of pain and pleasure to change virtually anything in our lives."
9) "Your biography is not your destiny, your decisions are."
8) "Our culture teaches us that making significant changes takes a long time and is difficult to do. This is simply NOT true. Change happens in an instant. It is not a process – it is something you do in an instant by simply making a decision."
7) "Success leaves clues. Go figure out what someone who was successful did, and model it. Improve it, but learn their steps. They have knowledge."
6) "Nothing in life has any real meaning except the meaning you give it."
5) "If you want to be successful, find someone who has achieved the results you want and copy what they do and you'll achieve the same results."
4) "If you question anything enough, you'll begin to doubt it."
3) "You could be winning and feel like you're losing because the scorecard you're using is unfair."
2) "At the base of every emotional upset you've ever had with another human being is a rules upset. Somebody did something, or failed to do something, that violated one of our rules about what they must or should do... So, if you ever feel angry or upset with someone, remember it's your rules that are upsetting you, not their behavior."
1) "Your emotions are nothing but biochemical storms in your brain and you are in control of them at any point in time."
These quotes were all great! The one that just jumped off the page and punched me in the face was number 8. I never thought about change quite like that. Once you think of change, it is done. Then go on and grab it by the horns. So simple to think yet I had not thought about change that way. Many thanks? Or not, big smile.
