I wish I could see how this works for the good of mankind. Jesus came to save humanity, and God works with us through the Holy Spirit on a soul level. Machines don't have souls, they are simply tools, and if we move to reliance on soulless tools for our living, and if they replace our friends and neighbors, how do we build bonds of community? Us against the machines? Alarming and disconcerting to say the least. Maybe- and this is just a guess- could this be another "Tower of Babel" moment, where God intervenes to make this fail or come up short? I believe time travel is impossible for that reason; there are some things that would so disrupt His creation that they are just barred...
If anything, this article UNDERSELLS it because it doesn't require the creation of an Artificial General Intelligence that can think more like a person to do any of this. If we ever get to that point, all bets are off.
Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of, that this entity/these entities become smarter and develop predictive powers greater than us "mere" humans. Unlimited data libraries, massive processing power, huge high speed memory, with no morality, gee, what could go wrong?
Excuse me for "Bogarting" the comment section, but I forgot to ask; "how do we get prepared? What are your suggestions? Thanks, John
1) Learn as much as you can about AI
2) Try to prep for a profession or income AI won't take away
3) Realize this could mean a significant drop-off in income down the road. Prep accordingly.
Well, John, you've given us a great big bowl of food-for-thought. Thanks for putting this out there.
