I related to David Horowitz. I too was involved with socialist, communists in college in the early 70’s. But for some reason I related this to Freedom. I learned pretty quickly that Freedom was the furthest thing from their minds. I read Radical Son when it first came out. It was like a breath of fresh air. Liberals are always on the verge of mental breakdown because their logic and ability to think things through is weak. They come across as educated and cultured until you disagree and then their whole world construct collapses. That’s why they refuse to discuss, throw fits, cut you off and turn into raging maniacs right before your eyes. They’re skating on thin ice. If their threats don’t shut you up, they want you censored. Like good little Commies, if you’re not in lock step, you’re the enemy.
If you ever want to know what progressives really think about race, ask them how they feel about minorities who voted for Trump. Their facial expressions are priceless. 😎
That's the weird thing about this tribalism over immigration. I think many, if not most, legal immigrants view illegals as labor competition, or at the very least resent them for jumping the line. And in Latin America, nobody from any nation wants their poor neighbors crossing their own border. It's economics being framed as racism by Dems, who seemingly can't distinguish between brown people who have opposing interests.
Wow. I didn't know that David Horowitz was such a wise man. His words are so plain, so true, with so much lived experience behind them, that they humble me. Here was a man who knew the score and spelled it out for all to read. Thanks, John, for sharing these illuminating truths for me to read and re-read, because I want to repeat some of them from memory. God bless him.
He hasn't been talked about as much in recent years as he used to be, but Horowitz was a brilliant guy and I thought he deserved a little more credit after he passed. Also, Radical Son truly is a great book. I'd highly recommend it.
I don’t want to give you the idea that we were tight or anything, because I didn’t know him that well, but I have been fortunate enough to meet an awful lot of big name conservatives in my life.
David Horowitz is on my top ten “Great American Torchbearers ”. He was a wonderful human being.
Pat Moynihan, Thomas Sowell, Frank Gaffney, Diana West, Dumisani Washington, Victor Davis Hanson… It’s more than political ideological Puritanism. It’s pragmatism, knowledge, experience and decency. And caring more about standing up for what is right than capitulating for personal gain and ceding their conscience for attaboys.
I read a tribute eulogizing Pat Moynihan titled, “ Was Daniel Patrick Moynihan a Democrat or Republican? He Was Just Pat. A Great American “.
"16) "We can trust our doctors to be professional, to minister equally to their patients without regard to their political or religious beliefs. But we can no longer trust our professors to do the same."
Horowitz must have said that before the Great Awokening of 2020, when doctors said that it was not only fine, but morally right, to discriminate against whites. Remember the vaccine rollout? Forget about whether it worked, the point is that prominent doctors said that elderly white people should get it after minorities. And the med schools have gone woke. So even that's gone.
This is such an accurate, sadly true, commentary on what the political Left thinks, acts, demands of others, and in how it denigrates anyone opposing their views of the world.
The only thing we seem to hear from the Left, in US, Canada, Europe, India and many other places are: successful people are oppressors and anyone not successful is oppressed whether they are qualified, have workethics, have self responsibility or not; that poor are poor because rich are exploiting them and the only way to work here is tax the rich and redistribute their wealth; that people need constant hand-holding even if it is because of their failures to do anything - as in students failing, workers failing to learn the trade and contribute, and so everyone is entitled to lifetime of this and that, the latest being everyone is entitled to free income; that society is always divided into black and white, or rich and poor, or master and slave, or higher caste and lower caste; and that anyone who doesn't subscribe to such views is - take your pick or picks - heartless , moron, racist, oppressor, fascist, nazi, unfit to be human. I can go on but I think that's the Left's way of thinking.
His book Radical Son (1997) had a great quote about a root cause of Anti-Semitism: "It was not my parents' idealism that elicited fear and provoked hostility from the goyim. It was their hostility toward the goyim, and indeed everything the goyim held dear, that incited the hostility back."

Trump was elected by Latino men.

...and bless their little liberal hearts! Thank you, John, for this lesson in "understanding the mind of a liberal" via Quotes from David Horowitz.

I'm jealous that you actually knew David Horowitz. A great man indeed. Thanks for the effort of assembling his quotes.

That is cool. Still jealous!😁
We have lost a very wise man.
Wonderful ideas/opinions to ponder. Thanks!

RIP to a great man.
He was one of my favorite guests on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson.
Very fine essay! So simple realistically but so antagonizing in practice! Liberals do NOT think

Great man. Great writer. He will be missed.
