I'll never forget the day I ran into him. Literally. Flattened him while I was chasing a frisbee outside Pomfret Hall on a Friday evening in 1982. He was very gracious and nice.
Hogs broke their winning streak the next morning. Always thought I mighta had something to do with that
“People eyeing you as a potential leader tend to ask three questions: Are you committed? Do you care about me? Can I trust you?”
On my bookcase in my office. What I repeat to all upcoming managers.
I have thought about this related to Trump. You hear from the left the TACO claim and that Trump is stupid, impulsive and out of control. However, I think the missing “do you care about me” piece causes them to engage in hysteria and hyperbole about the other two, while really knowing the other two are false. Clearly Trump communicates a lack of care for Democrats. My theory is that because the human animal is so helpless and reliant on care for a great percentage of of its life expectancy, that strong anger and resentment over not feeling cared for is an innate biological survival instinct. Lefties are more fixated on care/harm and it explains their TDS.
“Winners embrace hard work. They love the discipline of it, the trade-off they’re making to win. Losers, on the other hand, see it as punishment. And that’s the difference.”
We're gonna try something new this year. We're gonna try using offense and defense. We learned last year that just standing around, no offense and no defense, didn't win us many games.
11) “When people need love and understanding and support the most is when they deserve it the least.”
When Huey Long was in trouble in Louisiana, his emissary to the legislature spoke to one of the members of the legislature who was a Huey ally.
The legislator told Huey's assistant, "I'm a friend of Huey's but, damn it, Huey is wrong about this."
Huey's rep replied, "It's when a man is wrong that he needs friends the most."
I read a column in the County weekly paper one time that a 90 year old woman had been asked to compose about lessons she had learned in life. I have it saved (somewhere) because lots of what the old lady said was worth thinking about.
But there's one thing she said that I think of at least once a week:
"Life is not always easy but it's always interesting."
Two others. More humorous
When it is all said and done more gets said then done
I have a guaranteed contract. That means they can’t fire me if we are in th lead in the 3rd quarter
