I think a lot of the controversy around immigration comes from the government handling it in such a counter-productive way. If we were bringing people in who added to the tax base, kept their noses clean and fit into the culture, immigration would be much less controversial. Today, it's like flip a coin and half the people fit that description and the other half? Not so much. It's a very fixable problem, but it's requires a smart, sane, well meaning attempt to fix it which hasn't described our immigration policies since the awful 1965 immigration bill broke the way legal immigration works in our country.
