The Left Thinks We Owe Them a Living, but They Owe Everyone Else Nothing
Back in the day, people used to just say, “Nobody owes you a living.” In fact, it was one of those common phrases that parents repeated over and over to their kids, like, "If all your friends jumped off a cliff, would you do it too?” and "If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all."
Unfortunately, in America, the meaning of that phrase has been worn down through welfare, school lunches, disability payments to people who aren’t disabled, useless government programs, and a dozen other ways that people have become obsessed with their “rights,” without spending any time thinking about their “responsibilities.”
If America owes you, what do you owe America? If the answer is nothing, why should America owe you? As one of America’s greatest living minds has said:
Of course, it would be easy to rail against all the welfare programs and parasites who leech off the people who work for a living and pay taxes, but they’re only part of the problem.
Increasingly, we’re being told by the Left that ostensibly competent adults are owed sometimes extraordinary amounts of money, not because they deserve it, they earn it, or because it creates any value for the people paying them money, but JUST BECAUSE.
There are a lot of examples of this, but the latest one is profoundly unfunny, left-wing late-night host, Stephen Colbert:
CBS brass say they pulled the plug on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” because of its punishing losses — pegged between $40 million and $50 million a year — and claim politics had nothing to do with it, The Post has learned.
The 61-year-old host got canned just days after he took a dig at the Tiffany Network over its $16 million settlement with Donald Trump over a controversial “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris as the network’s parent, Paramount, negotiates with the Trump administration for regulatory approval for its $8 billion sale to independent studio Skydance.
Liberals have been going out of their minds since this happened. It has been a big topic on social media; liberal members of Congress have been demanding investigations, and other liberal late-night hosts have been rallying to Colbert. All of them have been calling the decision “political” while completely ignoring the fact that his show is now losing between 40 and 50 million PER YEAR. Colbert is on pace to lose HALF A BILLION DOLLARS over the next decade, and apparently, the expectation on the Left is that CBS should just eat it because he caters to liberals.
Note that liberals don’t watch the show in the numbers needed to make it profitable. They also don’t want to, let’s say, create a GoFundMe to raise 40-50 million dollars every year to pay for the money it’s losing. It’s not even like Colbert will go away. He’ll almost certainly start a podcast or do videos somewhere, but that’s still not good enough for the Left.
Along similar lines, what do you think of these shirts?
So, to be perfectly honest, I’ve never watched a WNBA game and probably never will, but I can tell you that the general consensus is that the quality level of their play is low and that other than Caitlin Clark, few sports fans care about anybody in the WNBA. The league also lost 50 million dollars last year, lost 300 million or so overall, and has NEVER made a profit since it was founded in 1996.
In other words, we’re literally talking about mostly anonymous athletes living off welfare from the NBA, demanding to be paid more money. What is the rationale for that even supposed to be? That NBA players make a lot more money? Yeah, no sh*t. The NBA made 11.3 billion dollars in the 2023-2024 season. The worst player in the NBA gets orders of magnitude more in salary than the best player in the WNBA and that’s exactly how it should be.
Of course, these are cultural examples, but this kind of thinking also extends to the government.
We heard endless wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Left over the closure of USAID, which is not surprising since the whole enterprise was used as a way to promote leftism and provide a slush fund/jobs programs for liberals. There’s an enormous number of things we could point out here, but this should give you the idea:
Liberals like to pretend none of those things were going on and say something like, “USAID gave aid to poor countries around the world, and without USAID, our ‘experts’ say that a quadrillion, zillion people will DIE!”
Think of the implications of that:
If medicine is genuinely needed and saves lives across the world, why is it that America has to pay for it, or it won’t happen? Why can’t billionaires step up? How about the UN? Europe? Japan? China? If a drug saves lives in, say, Nigeria or Ghana, why aren’t the governments of those countries going into debt to pay for that medicine? After all, since we’re running a deficit, that’s exactly what we’d have to do – and it’s THEIR COUNTRY.
On the other hand, speaking of “our country,” what about Joe Biden fighting so hard to have the government FORGIVE THE STUDENT LOANS taken out for college degrees? How does that even make basic sense? How do you ask people who paid off their college loans and people who never went to college to pay off the college loans of other people, especially when every study shows that students with college degrees make more than the average American?
If the loans aren’t worth it for the people that took them out, how can it be worth it for the rest of us to pick up the tab? Of course, it’s not. Like everything else here, it was a scam. Democrats would spend billions of dollars of other people’s money and, in return, would get the votes of people who had their loans forgiven. Meanwhile, a staggering amount of money would go into the pockets of liberal colleges. The only thing the suckers paying for all of it would get in return for that would be the bill.
It’s like liberals have turned that famous line from 300 into one of their core ideas:
Well, it’s time for that idea to die the horrible, ignominious death it deserves.
The government and the rest of us are not just here to serve liberals and their interests. The only thing we “owe” liberals is the same basic level of fairness that the rest of us get, and if that’s not enough for them, tough luck. The days of letting them run roughshod over the rest of the country are over for good.

Most excellent. Of course, the entire premise of the left’s politics is vote buying with taxpayer dollars solely for the purpose of staying in power, the sole purpose of which is to redistribute wealth from the producers to NGOs, favored companies, and left wing groups, and voters.
In other words, it’s a money laundering scheme to grab and hold power, and to further socialism at every turn.
Ah, USAID. The stories I could tell and probably will.
