Common sense, courage and valor once determined and enforced the rules. That's been replaced by idiocy, avarice and psychotic/neurotic/narcissistic politicians breaking the rules and turning the USA into a clown world.

This article made me feel better for smacking my kid's hand when she tried to sneak a Snickers into her pocket. It made me angry to know how the schools and society are deranging the young. It scared the hell out of me because no one in government is there to smack "anyone's" hand. Truly a writing I will not forget!

Good essay; I often make this point with speed limits. As much as I dislike the notion of getting pulled over and getting a speeding ticket, I realize how dangerous driving would become if there were never any cops enforcing the limits. There is a series of SF books by John Scalzi called "Old Man's War," it's a shame the technology doesn't (yet?) exist where an older than military age guy like me couldn't go over, join the IDF, and fight terrorists like Hamas. If/when I was killed, I might at least have accomplished something good first. Civilization will always need protection from barbarians, and the ones already inside the gates are often the worst ones.
