We live in an age of great ironies and one of them is related to the fact that the Left has been relentlessly working to get rid of statues of America’s heroes and Founding Fathers. There are countless examples we could use, but here are a few worth noting that will give you an idea:
These men we’re talking about here are not only undeniably three of the top 25 most accomplished Americans in history, but both Washington and Jefferson would merit being included on a list of the 100 most accomplished figures in WORLD HISTORY. These are great men who deserve to be treated as role models for all Americans – and yes, they did own slaves, but that’s just what the history of the world is like.
If prostitution was the oldest profession, slave master was probably the 2nd oldest profession. That doesn’t mean slavery is a good thing, but there’s probably not a single soul alive from say 100 years ago or longer that didn’t do or believe all sorts of things we find abhorrent or ridiculous. A hundred years from now, we’ll be the ones whose beliefs people find vile and out-of-touch. That’s the nature of the world.
In any case, while liberals were demanding statues of people like George Washington, Ulysses S. Grant, and Thomas Jefferson be torn down, they were replacing them with a new “hero.”
George Floyd.
Supposedly there are 2,700 pieces of street art around the world dedicated to George Floyd and there are multiple statues of George Floyd that have been made.
We also have George Floyd Square in Chicago:
Incidentally, it’s not just statues, squares, and murals.
As the 4th anniversary of George Floyd’s death passed, Democrats talked about the man like he was the 2nd coming of Martin Luther King. If you think I’m kidding, here are a few of many, many examples:
Believe it or not, the Left is even going to celebrate the “amazing accomplishments” of George Floyd with a new biopic:
Let’s take a moment and talk about this “great man” and his “legacy” that the Left apparently believes we all need to learn from and emulate.
First off, George Floyd had quite a colorful criminal record:
Between 1997 and 2005, Floyd was arrested several times on drug and theft charges and spent months in jail. In 2007, Floyd was charged with aggravated robbery in which he allegedly placed a gun on a woman’s abdomen and demanded drugs and money. In 2009, he pleaded guilty and received a five-year prison sentence. He got out on parole in 2013.
Many people have said that the woman he threatened to shoot in the stomach was pregnant, but the evidence for that appears to be lacking. However, he did apparently force his way into a woman’s apartment with a group of men and pointed a gun at her stomach as he robbed her. That doesn’t seem very heroic, especially compared to people the Left seems to consider lesser figures, like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Ulysses Grant – and it gets worse from there.
George Floyd, who was 6’6” and was already high, passed what was believed to be a counterfeit $20 bill. The police were called, and Floyd resisted arrest (albeit not violently) and acted erratically. After he refused to get in a police car (because he said he was claustrophobic, despite the fact they took him out of a car), he was restrained outside of the car and died in the process:
Some people have tried to paint Derek Chauvin, who knelt on George Floyd as wrongly convicted. That’s perhaps understandable since Floyd was high on meth and had enough fentanyl in his system to kill a normal person.
On the other hand, Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck. That was a technique Minnesota officers are allowed to do, but Chauvin knelt on his neck for almost 8 minutes, of which, Floyd was completely unresponsive for 3 minutes and 51 seconds. Would Floyd have died without the fentanyl in his system? That’s debatable, but probably “no.” However, would Floyd have died if Chauvin had actually shown even the most minimal level of concern about his life? Also, PROBABLY “no.” In any case, Chauvin was convicted and sent to jail.
That leads us to George Floyd’s “legacy,” which mostly consists of riots, looting, arson, racial tension, and dead people.
The riots of 2020 were followed up by cuts to police budgets and liberal district attorneys refusing to prosecute criminals in many places which led to a massive upsurge in crime and murder.
THAT is George Floyd’s life and legacy in a nutshell – and it’s not something that deserves to be celebrated or raised up as a good example in any way, shape, or form.
Yes, liberals have always tended to romanticize left-wing political violence (see the Weathermen and Bill Ayers) and try to play up racial strife because they believe it benefits them at the ballot box, but it’s morally repulsive in almost every way imaginable.
Encouraging people of different races to detest each other in a multicultural nation is madness. Rioting also gets people killed, ruins people’s livelihoods, and contributes to a sense of danger and disorder. Furthermore, for all the left-wing talk about “defunding the police,” that strategy has already mostly failed because the crime waves it created are considered intolerable even by other liberals. More money is now going to the police even in liberal cities and more and more of those “Soros prosecutors” you’ve heard about are getting pushed out of office:
Prosecutors across the country who have received financial backing from political action committees funded by George Soros are losing elections and facing recalls as crime continues to plague America’s cities. In just the past few months, the district attorney overseeing Portland lost his reelection bid, while Los Angeles’ district attorney faces long reelection odds. These prosecutors received campaign cash from Soros-backed political action committees, with their troubles building on a pattern experienced by Soros-backed prosecutors across the country.
George Floyd was not a good or admirable person, but it’s always sad when any human being dies unnecessarily. It would have been better for almost everyone if George Floyd had lived other than a few Black Lives Matter leaders who would have smaller bank accounts and houses if that were the case.
Still, that doesn’t make him a hero or a role model. The man was anything but and the Left’s attempt to shoehorn him into that role is disgusting and should be universally condemned.
You did a good job reciting the facts; the ironies are almost too much to comprehend. What is easy to understand is the pandering by left-wing idiots like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Anything for power; evil people content to rule over the ashes. All this foolishness has hardened my heart towards black people and their progressive masters/co-conspirators. There's little honesty or perspective, just division to use to conquer, and of course demand reparations in the form of affirmative action/corporate hiring preferences, government handouts, and maybe the big prize, a lump sum payment later. There's a lot of evil minds at work on team george floyd...
Oh a wussy troll is whimpering some farts after every comment. Isn't that special?
