Trump is Tearing Down Structural Advantages Democrats Have Spent Decades Building
For the last few decades, politics in America has been liberals trying to change the country into some kind of socialist utopia while, in the immortal words of William F. Buckley:
To their credit, conservatives have often managed to stop the Left from changing things for the worse, but nobody wins every battle. Sometimes liberals have managed to slip odious things into the culture and government.
So, what have conservatives done when that has happened?
Mostly nothing.
Like my poor, sad dog Boudica, who had ear surgery a couple of weeks ago and has been wearing the dreaded “Cone of Shame,” they have meekly accepted defeat and sorrowfully come to believe this is just how life is from now on.
Happily, for Boudica, she’s getting the cone off in a few days, and happily for conservatives, not only did Donald Trump win in 2024, but in the process, he proved that the mainstream media, liberal celebrities, and the left-wing power structure were all paper tigers.
They falsely declared Jan. 6 was an insurrection, they literally rewrote the laws in NYC to convict Trump in sham trials, and the Democrats at the top of the ticket openly painted Trump, along with his supporters, as Nazis. The result? Trump won both the Electoral College AND the popular vote.
After all of that, along with a couple of assassination attempts on top of it, Trump had no reason to back off any of his agenda just because the Left didn’t like it. Why should he? Do they ever care that conservatives don’t like their agenda? Don’t they aggressively implement their agendas at every opportunity? Didn’t the Democrats under Obama push through a radical (and extremely damaging) change to America’s healthcare system without a single Republican vote? How much did Joe Biden care when Republicans complained about him opening up America’s borders and waving every illegal on planet Earth into our country? None, right?
Well, Donald Trump has a number of things on his agenda. Trying out big tariffs for the first time in decades. Bringing home Americans wrongfully imprisoned all around the world. Stopping Iran’s nuclear program. Changing the laws to make the US friendlier to cryptocurrency. Having RFK Jr. try to make America healthy again. Getting NATO to increase defense spending. Getting rid of the tax on tips. Helping to end wars. It goes on and on.
However, there has been more to it than that, perhaps because Trump has had some unique experiences. After spending a term as president and losing a controversial election, he spent four years out of power, targeted by the media, the federal government, and the government of New York. Trump got an up-close and personal look at how the system has been corrupted to thwart Republicans like him and enable Democrats. He also had four years to think about how he could tackle that system. Other people might have bowed out rather than go into that uphill fight, but Trump is a habitually combative and revenge-oriented person. When he’s pushed, he instinctively fights back. Viciously. As Joe Rogan said about Trump, “He’s a nightmare for anyone trying to rig a system. He’s the final boss of “F*** you”:
So, when Donald Trump got back into office, he didn’t just come in with an agenda he wanted to implement like other politicians; he obviously came in intending to level the playing field between Republicans and Democrats. Ironically, this is how a loose cannon like Donald Trump can paradoxically end up being a stabilizing force who is helping bring the country back into balance.
You may be saying, “How?” Well, there are a number of things he’s doing.
For example, Democrats love open borders not just because they intend to turn illegals into a reliable voting block one day, but because it nets them House seats and Electoral College votes right now:
An investigation by the Center for Immigration Studies estimates that immigrants — legal and illegal — counted in the 2020 census shifted 17 seats in the House of Representatives and votes in the Electoral College.
Migrants are surging into the US ahead of the election in case Trump wins: ‘Free lunch is most likely coming to an end.’
The big winner is California, which has 8 more seats than it would have without immigrants.
The states that lose tend to be low-immigration states in the South and Midwest, such as Ohio and Tennessee. The inclusion of non-citizens alone shifts six House seats, with half the increase going to California. Illegal immigration caused two seats to change hands.
This redistribution of political power has significant partisan implications, with Democratic-leaning states experiencing a net gain of 14 seats and electoral votes due to immigration, while Republican states had 10 fewer seats. Battlegrounds had four fewer seats.
Non-citizens alone accounted for five of the seats gained by Democratic states in the last Census.
The whole idea that Democrats should get 14 seats and electoral votes because they refuse to police America’s borders is outrageous. It’s insane. It’s also time it came to a stop. Trump is just the man to do it.
Similarly, consider this quote from Elon Musk about USAID and NGOs:
(Musk) then said several people are becoming "very wealthy" through these non-profit organisations. "Government-funded NGOs are a way to do things that would be illegal if they were the government but are somehow made legal if it is sent to a so-called non-profit... people cash out these non-profits. They become very wealthy through non-profits. They pay themselves enormous sums."
Earlier, Musk had alleged that departments such as USAID were laundering money. "(It's) one of the biggest, maybe the biggest scam ever. I think there's a total number of NGOs, probably millions, but, in terms of large NGOs, tens of thousands. I mean, it's kind of a hack to the system where, you know, someone can get an NGO stood up for a fairly small amount of money," he said.
…"George Soros was really good at this. George Soros is like a system hacker. Like he figured out how to hack the system. He's a genius at arbitrage. I mean, these days he's pretty old, but a genius at arbitrage. So, he figured out that you could leverage a small amount of money to create a non-profit, then lobby the politicians to send a ton of money to that non-profit. So, you can take what might be, you know, a $10 million donation to a non-profit to create a non-profit and leverage that into a billion-dollar NGO," Musk said.
When Trump, Musk, and DOGE targeted that scam by going after USAID, they put a stop to more than 20 billion dollars that was used to fund liberal projects and employ liberals, while doing a little bit of good work on the side as a cover story.
Along similar lines, when Trump managed to get rid of funding for PBS and NPR, he was kicking anti-conservative news sources off the dole. In a world with a nearly infinite number of news sources, why should your tax dollars and mine go to pay for propaganda sources that are used against us? We could also ask, “Why in the world should conservative tax dollars go to Planned Parenthood?” Trump is trying to make sure they don’t.
What were these DEI jobs Trump ended? Outright discrimination that benefited liberals. Also, a quarter of a million government employees have been fired, forced out, retired early, or accepted buyouts since Trump became president. How many of those people do you think were leftists who were dead weight at best and were determined to undermine the agenda of a Republican president like Trump at worst?
We should also note that there have been bitter complaints from the Left about the White House press pool being opened up to conservative sources while liberal news sources have stopped getting special privileges. Why in the world should conservatives preserve a system where most conservative news sources other than Fox News had to sit at the back of the bus if they got a seat at all, while liberal outlets were treated as more important by default?
Happily – and maybe even most importantly – Trump has even started tackling the leftist indoctrination of children in our schools. How does this excerpt from a Trump executive order strike you?
Imprinting anti-American, subversive, harmful, and false ideologies on our Nation’s children not only violates longstanding anti-discrimination civil rights law in many cases but usurps basic parental authority. For example, steering students toward surgical and chemical mutilation without parental consent or involvement or allowing males access to private spaces designated for females may contravene Federal laws that protect parental rights, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), and sex-based equality and opportunity, including Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX). Similarly, demanding acquiescence to “White Privilege” or “unconscious bias” actually promotes racial discrimination and undermines national unity.
My Administration will enforce the law to ensure that recipients of Federal funds providing K-12 education comply with all applicable laws prohibiting discrimination in various contexts and protecting parental rights…
In other words, if you want to push a liberal agenda in school, it could cost you your funding, your job, and possibly lead to prosecution. Furthermore, Ivy League colleges haven’t been spared either:
The Trump administration announced late Monday that it was moving to freeze $2.2 billion in grants and $60 million in contracts to Harvard University.
The federal freeze came hours after Harvard rejected demands from the Trump administration, arguing that the changes pushed by the government exceed its lawful authority and infringe on both the University’s independence and its constitutional rights.
...Harvard is just one of dozens of schools targeted by the Trump administration in recent weeks. Last month, the Department of Education sent letters to 60 universities, including Columbia, Northwestern, the University of Michigan, and Tufts, threatening enforcement actions for noncompliance with anti-discrimination provisions in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The administration has taken the additional step of freezing research funding at several institutions.
Do you want your tax dollars going to elitist left-wing universities that discriminate against white students, allow anti-Semitic demonstrations, and openly despise conservatives? I certainly don’t – and why should that be allowed? If our tax dollars are involved in it, conservatives have a RIGHT to demand that we be treated fairly.
Donald Trump has his flaws as a President, just as all of them do, but he’s doing something historic by working to fix the illegitimately slanted playing field that has long benefited liberals at the expense of the rest of the country.

You've delineated and outlined all the reasons we needed a leader like Trump. He deserves a place on Mt. Rushmore.
Thanks for writing this, John. Nobody's perfect, and to expect that is unrealistic and kind of dumb. Trump has been doing a great job doing what America needs. We sure don't need the evil clowns on the left in charge, those demon-ridden anti-American corruptocrats. So much of what the left does is about seizing power and stealing money and it's all cloaked in "look how much we're helping the poor and down-trodden", when it's actually all about their power and control. I was thinking about Planned Parenthood and mass immigration- since Americans are no longer replacing themselves and are insisting we need millions of people from other countries, why not defund PP and maybe start having children of our own again? Just an idea. I vote for a Mt Rushmore add-on for DJT as well.
