During the Cold War, America’s foreign policy revolved around defeating the Soviets and thanks to the more aggressive policies of Ronald Reagan, it paid off with the end of the Soviet Union during his successor’s time in office.
Well stated , factual overview. Thanks for describing foreign policy in practical terms. and the common sense approach which Trump is known for. Europe has strayed far from the US in personal freedoms. Some of this trend Should make us refocus our efforts on America first policies.
Nice summary of Trump's foreign policy. With the media screaming Trump is Hitler! it's hard to find legacy media analysis free of doom and gloom hysteria. Nothing stays the same in the global struggle for power; it's about time we stop playing "games" that don't work efficiently and lack a long-term strategic focus. What you said about Israel was uncomfortable but insightful. As an evangelical Christian, I strongly support Israel and I know we must help them militarily. It's smart from a Biblical prospective, too, as God is clear about helping those who help Israel. Thanks, John.
"...to replace the Taliban with the Taliban in Afghanistan and far more to create an unstable ... Iraq"
That's a pretty strange way to describe "it worked". This leaves me to wonder how general that consensus really is, as opposed to how many people would sign on the a summary statement saying "it failed, and with a very high cost"?
Depends on what the goal actually was. If the goal was to eradicate terrorists that wanted to blow things up in America and prevent another 9/11, it got an A+ on that front. If the goal was stable regime change at a reasonable cost in blood and treasure in Afghanistan and Iraq, it got an F.
Exactly. And getting rid of terrorists should be our goal. And I’m fine with supporting fledgling democracies when they are ready (think Taiwan), but forcing them on people that aren’t ready and don’t want to be ready is a fools errand.
