Lincoln loved Scripture

Luke 11:17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.

Thanks for writing this. As you've probably noticed from some of my comments on other essays I've drifted into a tribalist mindset. Us against them thinking. There's a balance to be found - conservatives natural inclinations are to be left alone...you do your thing, I'll do mine in most instances. Unfortunately, the beneficial trait of tolerance has been carried too far on our side - we tolerate behaviors, disruptions, and active dismantling of our culture to the point of losing it. There is nothing holding progressives back from their single minded goal of destroying the foundations of America embodied in the constitution as created by our founders.

Liberals, before being co-opted by leftists, provided a balance for us conservatives. There is a place for liberalism in our culture. I hope we are not too far gone at this point to find our balance once again.

The majority of the Founders were what we would call Christian evangelicals. They were well-educated in history, and were cultural influencers. They incorporated into our founding documents the best ideas from the Bible and ancient Greek and Roman philosophers, thus creating the best form of government in human history. Unfortunately, Americans today are rapidly losing their connection to Christianity and history. The only answer, I believe, is Christian revival. I pray every day for Godly leaders to arise in our country.

Really poignant because it's both true and ominous. I don't want to do politics 24/7; I just want to live my life the way I'd always been. Yet I'm ceaselessly told that everything here was done wrong, that I am bad in many ways, and I have no right to benefit from what my culture and ancestors had built here. So, to acquiesce, or push back? The experience of practicing "tolerance" in my church did not go well, so I'm thinking "push back" is the better course of action. Does that make me a tribalist for pushing back against the Leftists who are working to fundamentally change America? When one side takes the gloves off, sends 30 FBI agents with guns drawn to arrest a man accused of simple assault (and already investigated and not charged by local police), is reasonable compromise possible? Seems like Biden's crew has blown way past that. In my state we have the senate Republican majority leader who made factually true statements about state voting law violations that happened in 2020 being subpoenaed to appear before the Jan 6 committee because he took a phone call from President Trump- can there be any remaining doubt that one side is using the federal government to attack state political opponents? Looks like Gestapo tactics have already been implemented against those who dare attack the current party in power. And that was just this week. If Republicans win this Fall, could you blame them for retaliating in a similar fashion?
