I understand when the elites use their power and position to circumvent laws intended to insure fairness. Like if the governor parks in a handicapped parking spot even though he isn't handicapped, sure, he thinks that he is so important and his time is so crucial that it supersedes the needs of handicapped people.

But the purpose of mask and social distancing mandates was supposed to be to protect the masked/separated person from catching a deadly disease. If the big shot politicians really believed that wearing a mask would save them from suffering and death, would they have used their power and position to ignore the rules? (Do I need to rattle off examples? California Governor Newsom at the football game, speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi at the hair dresser, Michigan Governor Whitmer at the restaurant, etc etc) Surely not. They would have used their power and position to make sure that they got the best masks available. They would probably have a staffer standing by with spare masks just in case anything happened to the one they were wearing.

The only possible conclusion is that when the politicians made these rules, they themselves didn't believe for a moment that they actually did anything to protect the wearer's health. They're not just hypocrites and elitists. They are liars.

(By the way, it doesn't matter if YOU are convinced that masks save lives. My point is that the people who made the rules don't believe it.)

John, I think you've made a far greater impression than you may realize. Your articles have been generating troll activity. Bless their hearts - they will remain Covidiots 'til their dying breath - possibly from Covid or fatal TDS😏

Those in positions of authority who have promulgated lies, ignorance, and fear porn these past 2 years deserve a reckoning. Once this country rights itself, which may be sooner rather than later, that will happen. The consequences cannot be severe enough.

Thank you, John, for writing this column. I'm happy to see some researched feedback to the authoritarian push by the so called "people who follow the science." I've been vaxxed and boosted, but I get mad when I hear the shame and blame nonsense about unvaccinated people killing other people by spreading Covid. Where are the apologies to them, now that we know the vaccinated are also catching it and spreading it? Yup, them apologies are never coming

It is well established that science progresses best when people in authority decide which theories are true and which are false, and then censor and silence anyone who attempts to spread the theories they know to be false. This prevents people from wasting their time pursuing theories that the authorities know are false. Just think how much further along science would be today if the authorities had managed to shut Galileo, Pasteur, etc down effectively so that they hadn't been able to spread their crazy theories. Or something like that. At least that's how liberals explained it to me.

Ridiculous. Clearly we now see you're a victim of QAnon science, GOP ignorance, and the last White House guy's never-ending failures and lies. When you go back to college to finish that degree, try taking classes in medicine and science. They'll help you learn how research works, especially new diseases. It takes years, trial and error, occasional challenges, before solutions are perfect, or even refined. You may have never heard of them, but we used to have smallpox, mumps, measles, and lots more. But through the decades (not one or two years), scientists developed clear analyses, new meds, better healthcare practices. Maybe your education at Trump "University" was fun, even though useless. But I hope you're one of the students who at least got some of the wasted money when DJT was fined $25 million.
