Over at Hot Air, David Strom wrote a piece called, “It’s Wrong to Assume Democratic Party Voters Are Evil.” Just as a starting point, I thought it was very generous of him to say that because the Left certainly isn’t returning the favor.
Very interesting question and analysis, John. I, for one, am torn on the question. For sure some are, but for many, I don’t think that the problem really isn’t that they are evil. Rather, the real problem is twofold.
First, liberals believe that of one person, anywhere, is mistreated, disrespected, felt threatened, etc., then the system has failed. Because some Proud Boys are racists, all Republicans are racist. Because one person is picked up by ICE shouldn’t have been, ICE is evil.
They believe in the perfection of man, if only more money was spent and more of their polices were adopted. And since man is not perfect, there’s always more to do and more money to spend and anything less than perfection is a reason to protest.
Indeed, this belief in man’s perfection makes easy for the truly evil, George Soros for example, to manipulate them and convince them that if they don’t “act” and donate now, democracy will be lost, slavery will return, nights will be lost, etc.
Add to this the fact that to many liberals and likely all progressives, politics has replaced real religion and is, at all times, central to their personality and to their view of themselves. This, they believe that pretty much everything that is not perfect in their view (and we live in an imperfect world) is a reason to donate, complain, protest, and march into the streets. And, when they do, the truly evil empire that the anarchists from Antifa (and others) that are the ones who are actually paid, join in, thus turning stupid baby boomer led marches and protests into violent riots.
Which leads back to the first question. Are they evil, naive, too easily manipulated, or mentally unstable? Or all of the above?
As a group, certainly, all of the above. As individuals, we know at least one of those things, with the addition of foolish, dumb, and greedy. The desire for power, and to control others are also contributing factors. I watched clips of Stephen A. Smith interviewing Jacob Frey and I lots of bad thoughts about Minnesotans, and the most generous being suicidal empathy and the woke mind virus. God help us where and when they take control. Mayor Frey strikes me as an evil man who purposely manipulates the weak minded.
Their desire for power and control over others is unlimited and yes, their suicidal empathy will be the downfall of the republic if they can take full power. You may be right, but Frey is such a lame, pajama boy, fembot, that it's hard to see him as evil, rather than a just a pandering, power hungry, socialist.
I think if you are acting as a devoted liberal in America today, you are evil because you are doing evil. I have to struggle, a little bit, with that question because I know people can, sometimes, see the light and change. When I was young, I was a liberal because hell, everyone around me was. I was living in a bubble. It took getting out into the world and witnessing the lies and hypocrisy to change. I loathe liberalism now, because it leads so many people down a bad path that is and will destroy this nation. Learning about Christ and Biblical truth is the best cure; so is it any wonder the most hard-core libs are so un-Christian? My default is to think, if you are doing evil and trying to convince, or coerce, others into doing the same, that you are evil. Demonic possession? Can you be freed? I think so, but first you have to be open to reason, and that is what we no longer see.
I have lived in a California liberal college town for 45 years. I have been on a quest for much of that time to try and understand why my liberal friends that have had a life similar to mine have ideas that I consider to be absurd and off, and how the hell any of them have been able to rise to their level of economic success with their failed attempts at rationalization.
The theory that I have developed is that Democrats and Republicans have filtered into two distinct groups of people with common personality types that have been derived from biology, genetics and parenting.
Democrats are people with stronger emotional processors and less emotional regulation capability. They are also less capable to cope with stress and anxiety. They are made more anxious when they are injected into situation they don't feel they can control, or that don't have a lot of rules around them to help mitigate their anxiety for being out of control. The are very risk-averse... to the point that they often cannot make decisions for fear that they might make a bad one. I see Democrats as people that have been overly mothered and not adequately fathered. They are the least resilient of our population. They are the most fragile.
My business partner and his wife are liberal... they will make us walk for hours looking for a restaurant for dinner. They will wait for the "best" table. They have to sample every wine before ordering it for the meal and take forever to order. The always order things to share as they are worried that the other might order something better. My business partner will work on complex spreadsheet models and talk to "experts" for months and months to delay a decision on something to eliminate the risk that he might make a mistake. I cause visible panic in him by saying "Sasha, a decision to delay is still a decision fraught with the risk of mistake".
I believe what we are seeing is the work of our communist globalist enemies using our own deep state psych ops to exploit all these Democrat useful fools to agitate against their own country to foment disruption and chaos to influence elections that would support maintaining the US funded global order that so many elite transnationals loot from.
