Are Liberals Evil?
Over at Hot Air, David Strom wrote a piece called, “It’s Wrong to Assume Democratic Party Voters Are Evil.” Just as a starting point, I thought it was very generous of him to say that because the Left certainly isn’t returning the favor.
We also regularly see liberals referring to Republicans as fascists and Nazis in hopes that some of their crazier brethren will murder us and many millions of them openly celebrated when Charlie Kirk was assassinated. Those things seem pretty evil, right?
Still, I think these comments from David Strom are more right than wrong, although I am also not sure how much it matters (more on that in a moment):
For decades, we understood that liberals see us as evil, and we saw liberals as stupid. But as their politicians have become more and more insane or even evil — what else can you call abortion until birth and sterilizing and mutilating children except demonic? — many of us have concluded that anybody who can be complicit in that evil must be evil themselves.
...That’s not to say that some are not. That many are not. When I see “thought leaders” make arguments that I KNOW for a fact that they know are not true, I conclude they are evil. Many, but not all, of these thought leaders are very cynically manipulating their followers to accept their own and others’ enslavement.
...But I know a lot of “bleeding heart” liberals who really do believe that they are helping build a better world.
Which is why I often say that our true enemies are in Pravda and the transnational elite. The average liberal, when they read Scientific American, watches the pundits every Sunday, and peruses The Atlantic, actually believes that they are listening to the best and the brightest who have acquired wisdom, and whose authority is derived from their deep knowledge and collective wisdom.
...At base, they believe that the elite are good, sane, and honest. They cannot conceive of a bureaucracy that created the Russia Collusion hoax. It is too horrific to believe, because they trust them.
In the end, what liberals believe is that the world is perfectible with enough money and effort, and their politicians promise to perfect it. They actually believe that Gavin Newsom wants to solve homelessness, that Tim Walz wanted to feed children and provide daycare, and were shocked, SHOCKED, to discover that Biden’s brain was pudding. They were told by their trusted elite that he was fit as a fiddle.
It must have been a mistake, because the alternative—a massive conspiracy to deceive the American public — would never be done by their trusted elite.
Your average liberal doesn’t want communism or children sacrificed to the alphabet gods. They want peace and prosperity and a “kinder, gentler” world. They don’t understand that human beings are fallen — most are post-Christian — and believe the myth that the world is perfectible.
In my life, I have known some liberals who were fundamentally decent people. They didn’t hate conservatives. We might not agree on politics, but they were the sort of people you might enjoy hanging out with. Hell, I HAVE hung out with some of them before.
Many of you reading this can probably say the same. You know, “My aunt Karen is a nice woman… well, as long as the neighbor kids don’t roll a basketball in her yard. She’d never celebrate someone’s death she disagrees with,” or “My co-worker Karl M. voted for Joe Biden, and we got along fine. We talk about football, Game of Thrones, and how many kids Elon Musk REALLY HAS every day at lunch. He’s not evil.”
That’s true. Those people aren’t evil. They’re not wishing for you to die. Well, probably anyway. You might not want to trust them to be on Trump’s Secret Service detail if you know what I mean… but, maybe even that’s unfair.
To be perfectly frank, I don’t know if people like that make up a majority of liberals anymore, but at a minimum, that is a description of a large minority of liberals.
So, if that’s true, how do we explain the fact that there are also so many liberals around (maybe even a majority) that are like these people:
Granted, there are members of every race, religion, creed, and ideology who are evil. Unfortunately, it’s part of the human condition. Moreover, if we looked at groups we consider “evil,” there are probably members of those groups that are actually a lot nicer than you’d expect. Maybe Saddam Hussein had torturers who made a real effort to torture people as little as possible, or there were Nazi prison guards who slipped food and water to Jews when the other Nazis weren’t around.
So, where does this leave us with liberals?
Well, first of all, I do think that LIBERALISM is evil. It is a branch of the same tree as communism and fascism. Furthermore, given enough time and enough authority, it would take liberals to the exact same places their ideological brethren went. Gulags, secret police, reeducation camps, and outright murder. It’s just the natural endpoint of believing that you can make utopia real, that everything you do is good by default because you’re liberal, and that the only thing stopping paradise from becoming reality is all those old meanies who won’t go along with what you want to do.
Put another way, liberalism is like a sickness. In the early stages, a person can fight it off, and their culture, upbringing, and positive influences around them can allow them to still be a good person. On the other hand, as the sickness advances, those medicines become too weak to prevent the rot of the soul that liberalism causes.
In other words, I fully believe that the vast majority (not all, but yes, a large majority) of liberal politicians, activists, and political diehards are evil people. They have no morals, they’re habitual liars, they’re full of hate, and they generally behave like sociopaths any time they can get away with it. These are the sort of people who would unhesitatingly put you in camps or have you lined up and shot if they could.
It’s also worth noting that very few of the liberals who aren’t evil do anything to discourage this behavior. You can say that’s because they don’t want to stand up against their tribe, because they don’t really think they mean it or because they see the world with rose colored glasses, but it doesn’t really matter.
Keep in mind that not so long ago, after a liberal assassinated Charlie Kirk and other liberals publicly celebrated it by the millions, left-wingers in Virginia knowingly voted in an attorney general who privately told someone he wanted to MURDER HIS CONSERVATIVE OPPONENT’S CHILDREN:
In the exchanges, Jones appears to call for violence against then-Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Todd Gilbert, his wife, Jennifer, and their children.
“Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler and Pol Pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head,” Jones wrote on Aug. 8, 2022. In a subsequent text, he added, “Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know, and he receives both bullets every time.”
Coyner asked Jones to stop, adding, “It really bothers me when you talk about hurting people or wishing death on them.”
Jones excused the tirade by saying he was asking questions. Coyner denied that was the case, saying that Jones was “talking about [hoping] Jennifer Gilbert’s children would die.”
“Yes, I’ve told you this before. Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy,” Jones replied.
If that guy can get a majority of liberals to vote him into office, a majority of liberals are going to be okay with you being murdered if they won’t face consequences for it. So, does that mean every liberal is evil? No, but at a certain point, how much does it matter if the people that aren’t evil are still going to support the people that are?
So, don’t hate liberals, don’t cut off your liberal friends or family, and do try to judge people as individuals. But also, don’t kid yourself about the nature of liberalism and what that ideological disease turns people into once they get deeper into their sickness.

What a stupid question.
YES.
They are not "our liberal friends," they're not misguided do-gooders and they don't mean well.
They're totalitarian megalomanics who know EXACTLY what they're doing, and they're doing it on purpose.
Very interesting question and analysis, John. I, for one, am torn on the question. For sure some are, but for many, I don’t think that the problem really isn’t that they are evil. Rather, the real problem is twofold.
First, liberals believe that of one person, anywhere, is mistreated, disrespected, felt threatened, etc., then the system has failed. Because some Proud Boys are racists, all Republicans are racist. Because one person is picked up by ICE shouldn’t have been, ICE is evil.
They believe in the perfection of man, if only more money was spent and more of their polices were adopted. And since man is not perfect, there’s always more to do and more money to spend and anything less than perfection is a reason to protest.
Indeed, this belief in man’s perfection makes easy for the truly evil, George Soros for example, to manipulate them and convince them that if they don’t “act” and donate now, democracy will be lost, slavery will return, nights will be lost, etc.
Add to this the fact that to many liberals and likely all progressives, politics has replaced real religion and is, at all times, central to their personality and to their view of themselves. This, they believe that pretty much everything that is not perfect in their view (and we live in an imperfect world) is a reason to donate, complain, protest, and march into the streets. And, when they do, the truly evil empire that the anarchists from Antifa (and others) that are the ones who are actually paid, join in, thus turning stupid baby boomer led marches and protests into violent riots.
Which leads back to the first question. Are they evil, naive, too easily manipulated, or mentally unstable? Or all of the above?
