Personally, I think the reason so many people think well of socialism is because capitalism doesn't scale benevolently past national borders. And so many companies are publicly-traded multinational corporations these days.
Capitalism works great when it's Bob's Hometown Hardware or even U.S. Reactors, Inc. But when you get to the Amalgamated Global Holdings LLC, Inc. stage, you're basically talking about Weyland-Yutani.
Something about being a giant multinational entity brings out the mass layoffs, the economic destruction of entire states, the global regulatory arbitrage, the profitability-uber-alles approach to operations, the Indian call centers, the relentless cheapening of products and the endless cost-cutting everywhere but the executive compensation packages.
That's why so many people think well of socialism: Because capitalism loses its shit at the border.
Good Stack. Until a system proves better, capitalism it is. Any ya, if it's so bad, why do so few people leave? There's enough people with enough wealth that they can do it….no. It's not just capitalism, but freedoms our country offers.
