Karmelo Anthony, Shiloh Hendrix, and the Consequences of the Left’s Obsession with Race

The Left in America has always been obsessed with race. Once they despised black Americans because they thought they were inferior, while they viewed white people as just “better” because they were superior.

Today, they’ve put a new twist on that thinking. Now, they feel like they need to help black (and to a lesser extent, Hispanic) Americans because they view them as inferior while white people need to be brought down because it’s not fair that they outperform black and Hispanic Americans as a group.

We’ve also seen increasingly hostile left-wing attitudes toward Jewish and Asian Americans because they’re achieving too much. It’s hard for liberals to glory in their “white savior complex” with people who are doing well enough that everyone can see they don’t need saving.

This attitude from the Left is extraordinarily toxic to American culture for a variety of reasons.

For one thing, it leads liberals to treat many black Americans like mentally challenged children instead of fully functional adults, capable of charting their own destiny. Just consider the liberal argument that black Americans are uniquely too poor, stupid and incompetent to get an ID. If this were genuinely true, which it’s not, it would be a good argument to no longer allow black Americans to immigrate to America because anyone who can’t even handle getting an ID certainly isn’t going to be a fully functional member of society. Along similar lines, it’s this very attitude that led the late, great Walter Williams to once say:

"During the first Reagan administration, I participated in a number of press conferences on either a book or article I'd written or as a panelist in a discussion of White House public policy. On occasion, when the question-and-answer session began, I'd tell the press, 'You can treat me like a white person. Ask hard, penetrating questions.' The remark often brought uncomfortable laughter, but I was dead serious. If there is one general characteristic of white liberals, it's their condescending and demeaning attitude toward blacks."

Without question, the Left’s attitude is bad for competent, well-meaning black Americans in almost every way imaginable. White liberals want black Americans to fail so they can get validation for “helping” them. That’s why they don’t care how bad the crime is where they live or how lousy the schools are in their area. If you’re black, they constantly lie to you about society being stacked against you, everyone being racist, and encourage you to look for any excuse to be a victim. Liberals view people who need DEI programs as poor, pitiful losers that they’re willing to get a job even though they don’t deserve it. Except, there are plenty of competent black Americans who DO DESERVE to succeed, but when they do, what happens? A lot of people assume they’re just another incompetent DEI hire who could have never gotten the job if not for the color of their skin – and why wouldn’t they? Liberals make sure those kinds of DEI hires are EVERYWHERE.

In addition, the way the Left approaches race is even worse for the rest of the country.

After all, if black Americans are going to be cast in the role of hopeless victims held down by racism, someone else has to be cast in the role of “victimizer.” This has turned finding alleged racism by white Americans in general and white conservatives in particular into a cottage industry on the Left. There’s no such thing as a claim of racism that is considered too flimsy to be made by a liberal and no matter how laughable the claim, the verdict on the Left is always, “guilty.” Of course, people who aren’t wearing those left-wing blinders see exactly what’s going on and they resent being cast as the villain responsible for the bad choices and personal failings of people they’ve never even met.

Along similar lines, no matter how bad the behavior of a black liberal is, how racist against white Americans they become, or how dumb something they say happens to be, you very seldom hear white liberals challenge it. That’s why, for example, Bill Clinton’s “Sister Souljah moment” is still talked about on the Left. His repudiation of her racist, violent, hateful comments about whites is STILL talked about 30 years later, not because it was so ferocious or brilliant (it was neither), but because it happens SO RARELY among the most prominent people on the Left:

Because bad behavior by black Americans isn’t punished on the Left, you get more of it.

For example, the most openly racist people in America are… black Americans. Overt racism against white Americans is met with a shrug and you can be sure that white Americans notice it and whether they’re willing to say something about it or not, they don’t like it.

So for example, when Karmelo Anthony baited a white student from another school into trying to get him to move and then stabbed him to death, he was able to raise more than half a million dollars. Contrary to what many people might like to believe, the very fact that he stabbed a white kid to death was exactly the reason the fundraiser did so well. In a sense, it was trolling. It was a giant middle finger to white people: “Ha, ha, we gave money to a murderer just to let you know how much we despise you!”

That sort of thing has been given a pass on the Left for decades and typically, conservatives just ignore it.

This time though, the message was sent back in the other direction in a fundraiser for a horrible human being named Shiloh Hendrix.

If you haven’t heard about her, let me fill you in on her incredibly trashy story. The short version of it (if the video can be trusted) is that she was at a playground with her small child and a 5-year-old, black, autistic kid took her kid’s diaper bag. Instead of recognizing that she was an adult, and this was a small child, followed by saying something like, “Hey, that’s not yours. You can’t take other people’s things. That’s wrong. Now, hand it back. Thank you,” she called this little kid the N-word. Someone who was there took offense, started filming, called her out for her bad behavior and she called him the N-word too as she left:

Yet and still, she did a GiveSendGo fundraiser and has raised almost $500k.

One of the co-founders of GiveSendGo, which is a fantastic fundraising platform that obviously feels compelled to run both of these campaigns for ethical reasons even though they don’t agree with them, has noted the comments had to be shut down on both of these because so many of the people donating were saying racist things:

Although Karmelo Anthony murdering someone is certainly much worse than Shiloh Hendrix dropping the N-bomb, the donors to both campaigns are flip sides of the same coin. They’re race-obsessed, mediocrities that love the idea of trolling people based on race. Because they’re generally stupid people, to them, it’s all fun and games.

However, this kind of thing is bad for the country, it’s dangerous, and it shows you what the end result of the Left’s ideas catching on will be.

As I wrote back in 2017:

Here’s another way to put it: when you ENCOURAGE identity politics among black Americans and Latinos while regularly aiming vicious criticism at white Americans based on their race, many white Americans will vote accordingly after becoming sick of the abuse and the hypocrisy. Liberals have worked themselves into this weird place where they quite correctly condemn the KKK, white supremacists, and Nazis, but encourage similar mentalities among minority groups because they believe it will benefit them politically. The more entrenched this disgusting mentality becomes, the more you can expect white Americans to act and vote like just another minority group. Does that sort of balkanization sound healthy? For example, do you think it would be good if white Americans had their own version of the NAACP designed to pursue their racial interests? Do you think white voters should explicitly vote for candidates because they share their race like black Americans often do? Should white Americans be given an explicit advantage in college entrances and government jobs for a few years to make up for all the years minorities were given preference over them because of their race via Affirmative Action? You can give every lame excuse in the book why it’s okay to spew hate at white Americans, but there are always consequences. Ultimately, nobody loves or respects someone who treats him like garbage because of something he can’t change.

Liberals should never forget that it is dangerous to mock people who believe in a color-blind America because eventually, you may convince them that you’re right.

Trashing white people, ignoring black racism, and judging people by their racial group are already mainstream ideas on the Left. On the Right? Those are still fringe ideas, but they’re gaining popularity.

Despite the Left seeing racism everywhere, all the time, conservatives that detest black Americans are fairly rare, but hatred of Jews? By far, that’s still a minority position, but it is rising. There are virulent anti-Semites on the Right that crack a million followers on X or that get invitations to be on the Joe Rogan show. Eventually, if they don’t pay a big price for it, the Right could become as toxic as the Left on race issues – and that’s not a good thing.

We live in a multi-cultural nation and abandoning the idea of colorblindness in order to split ourselves off into hostile, competing racial groups is a recipe for disaster. That’s why Americans ultimately rejected that whole concept and embraced the idea of judging people as individuals.

If we backslide into those old ideas again because Democrats think it may benefit them electorally and a few sociopathic conservative influencers realize that relatively small groups of rabid haters can have an outsized impact online, it will be terrible for the country. These ideas, like the people pushing them, deserve to be unambiguously rejected.
