There are arguments about exactly where the Seven Deadly Sins came from, but they seem to have consolidated into their current form during the reign of Pope Gregory 1 in the sixth century.
Well done. And these are the people deep into self-deception that their position is one of great virtue, egalitarianism, charity and caring for the downtrodden.
I can't believe how many Lutherans- which I used to be- believe in this sort of "forced giving." They engage in what I believe would be called the heresy of Freemasonry, where the government takes the place of God as the source for what people need to live.
Despite thousands of years of experience, mankind still hasn’t learned that the best way to alleviate poverty is capitalism with limited government that, at the local level, only takes care of those that are physically unable to care for themselves.
Good essay, John, I appreciate this reminder. I suspect that I might be guilty, at times, of Wrath. Not offensively, I suppose, but in reaction to the latest left-wing outrage. Congressmen encouraging members of the military to doubt then disobey the orders of their officers. Outraged mobs attacking or impeding the lawful, voted for, and necessary deportation of illegal aliens by ICE. I mean, I live in WI, where Demoncats are outraged that Jabba the Hutt judge Dugan was convicted of the obvious crime of obstruction of justice. Ministers and pastors railing on me for being selfish and bigoted because I'm a white man who is sick of being discriminated against by woke companies and my own governor and county executive. Makes me grit my teeth and want to grab a ballbat. I pray that I will get to watch God taking my revenge on these sinful cretins!

True. None of which is true. And while voluntarily charity is commendable, forced charity is not charity. It’s redistribution for political purposes.

Very well done, John. Merry Christmas!
