I was thinking about this and yet another release of the Hunger Games movie franchise. Also, the Squid Games series from South Korea that has been popular.
My son dropped out of college to join the military. His mother and I went to his Basic graduation, and he commented that it had been too easy. He was considering shifting to infantry and then special forces. We encouraged him to pick another MOS as he achieved 98% of the ASVAB. He ended up doing drone operations.
All of this funnels to the theory of people needing real life struggle to serve their lower-level psychological needs as part of their development path. If they don't have it, they make it up.
This is probably why the Romans figured out they needed gladiator fights. This is probably why NFL is so popular. This is probably at least part of the explanation for why wars continue.
Liberals are the most hypocritical of political robots in that they claim to advocate for a utopia of social harmony, while exploiting the gap in psychological needs fulfillment that send people off to do violence as a placebo for the life challenges deleted by liberal policies. They create a dystopia in pursuit of utopia.
This is what worries me the most about the loss of jobs from offshoring, robotics and AI. The human animal evolved for 99% of its existence to participate in struggles to survive and be safe. Only the last sliver of modernity have we eliminated almost all of that struggle and seem to believe that people can bypass it to go immediately to self-actualization and transcendence.
I think the reason that the kids of the left are exploding in violence is that they are making their own dystopia that creates the challenge for survival that their base psychology craves. What we need instead is for them to be working in careers of performance competition that replaces the evolutionary struggle for survival to eat and not be eaten.
Good post, John, it does a good job of summarizing the wince and anger producing conduct by the Left. Your picture does a good job of emphasizing the lack of maturity and misunderstanding of the potential consequences of their endless pestering. Because part of what they're assuming is that the powerful adults they are hiding behind are not going to take a side; that they just want to stop the disturbance and go back to their corner. For as long as this is true, the Left can survive this (stupid) game, but what happens when they push too far? And/or, the powerful adult doesn't stay neutral, and decides to punish the instigator? This is a point I see coming, a lot of us are running short on their fuse, esp. when it involves damage and looting. Of course I consider there is also someone watching all who will judge on intent, and His judgment is going to come as the most impactful of all. Why would the Father welcome in those kind of stupid, disruptive, immature people as eternal citizens of His holy city?
