Where I live, most people understand that we have to have hunting to prevent disease and car crashes with deer, because we've decided that we need to protect our domestic livestock, pets, and toddlers from natural predators like wolves. We know from the Bible that Paul was told to "kill and eat," so God Himself, the creator of all things, has sanctioned hunting for food.
Foolish is too kind a word for this. Stupid, self-important, shallow, hubristic, and intellectually dishonest fleshes (tee hee pun intended) out the description, with a few thousand other aspersions one could apply if time and energy were not a consideration.
