Yes. If there are intelligent aliens, we have literally no idea what their reaction to us would be. They MIGHT see us as a charity case and come offering all sorts of assistance. They might see us as great potential slaves and come to conquer us. They might be fascinated by our children's finger painting and want to trade advanced technology for this great art. They might have some totally alien reaction that we can't even comprehend. Hoping that an interaction would be positive for us is a big gamble. Like selling your house so you can use the money to buy lottery tickets.
If you haven't read "Live Free or Die" by John Ringo, you're missing out on a real treat! Proving a negative is impossible; the classic "Area 51 must have an alien there because the government denies that they're hiding one!" As a Christian, since God sent His only son to die on the cross to save us; I doubt He'd make that sacrifice again. There is no mention in the Bible of other races, just angels and demons. But some SF authors have pulled the "in my Father's house there are many mansions" verse, John 14:2, to imply that there might be other races? Finally, if we were visited by a hostile race, would Jesus come back and kick their hindparts for us? I enjoy the works of fiction, including the great Berserker series by Saberhagen.
