Back in 2022, I wrote about how AI and sex robots could become a thing in the future, but it has been interesting to see how fast everything has progressed. No, we’re not quite ready for the replicant prostitutes from Blade Runner yet, but you might be surprised at how far things have moved along:
So, how far have we come? Well, AI is good enough to do this:
What is the idea behind this? Basically, it seems to be that you choose a female model AI creates to your specifications and have a sexual chat or PHONE CONVERSATION with it while you use a device for sex.
Will that particular idea catch on? It’s hard to say, but we can definitively say that AI models of women keep getting better and more realistic. For example, have you heard of Deanna Ritter? She’s pretty popular on Instagram. She has almost 500,000 followers. Let’s look at a picture of her and compare it to an AI influencer.
Oh wait, did I say we were going to compare her picture to an AI influencer? That’s not right. She IS an AI influencer, and she has 481,000 followers on Instagram.
Does it matter that she’s not real? Apparently not to the simps in the comment section:
Moreover, I don’t know how long this has been up, but she has a Patreon page where her “fans” can pay money to get spicier pictures of her:
Of course, this is just the point of the spear. As I researched this article, I found dozens and dozens of AI sex chat websites. While I’m not paying for them to test them out or giving you a list of them to check (this is not that kind of article), I can tell you some of the models/characters on these websites seemed to have hundreds of thousands of uses.
How good are they? Given the experience I have talking to ChatGPT, which is one of the most advanced public AIs, I can’t imagine that they’re conversationally at the level of a human being. Furthermore, I did keep an eye out to see if any of these spicy AI websites I checked could handle voice interactions and I only saw a couple that claimed to be able to do that (for a significant fee). On the other hand, not everyone seems to need brilliant conversation to keep them glued to a woman online:
Still, maybe I’m selling AI short because there are, I kid you not, already people with “AI girlfriends”:
You may be thinking, “Who would do this?” Well, there’s now a study that at least partially addresses that question:
Most people 'want to have sex with robots,' new Robosexuality study reveals.
...Connor Leshner and Jessica Johnson put the poser to students to better understand robosexuality – attitudes towards and interest in sexual relations with robots. In their paper, titled "Technically in Love: Individual differences relating to sexual and platonic relationships with robots", they identified several broader attitudes that predicted this interest.
The pair collected data on the three attitudes they believed could be tied into robosexuality. Firstly, sociosexual orientation, which measures people's attitudes towards more monogamous versus more open sexual attitudes.
Secondly, hostile sexism which sees people view gender relations as competitive and full of conflict. Thirdly, there was social dominance orientation which measures a person's desire to support and maintain a ranking of different groups, with some being higher than others.
Contrary to the researchers' belief, it wasn't the people with casual and unrestricted sexual attitudes that were keen on bonking bots. It turned out that people who were higher in hostile sexism were more likely to be interested in sex with robots.
And it was men who tended to be keener on hooking up with their electronic partners. On the flipside women were more likely to just be friends with robots.
The study also found that people higher in social dominance orientation were also more likely to be interested in sex with robots. Analysing the findings in Psychology Today, Alexander Danvers reflected that adding sex robots into the mix didn't "meet a need" for those with casual and unrestricted sexual attitudes.
On the people higher in hostile sexism being more likely to have an interest, Danvers wrote that it could be that men tended to have anger and distrust of women, and the robot alternative may be viewed as more trustworthy. He added that it could also be a sexual object to which they would treat with disdain, the same way they already handle women.
Danvers also suggested that those higher in social dominance orientation already saw some groups as less valuable than others and therefore "may already see others as being more like objects to use."
These study results are made more disturbing by the fact that most humanoid robots haven’t fully gotten over the “uncanny valley” hump yet:
So, there are a couple of things worth noting here.
First of all, many people may not realize it, but our society has been unintentionally laying the groundwork for this over the last couple of decades in a variety of ways. Dating has gotten very difficult for a significant part of the population. The marriage rate in America recently hit an all-time low while the number of people in Gen Z not having sex recently hit an all-time high.
While prostitution has probably been around practically since the beginning of time, the line between sex, dating, and financial transactions has become increasingly blurred in America. We still have prostitutes and other obvious sex workers like strippers, phone operators, and porn stars, but does OnlyFans fall in that same category? Most of us would say “yes, but many of them don’t look at what they do that way. We also have sugar babies who sort of straddle the line between sex work and dating. Then there are Instagram models and Twitch streamers who’ve built fan bases and made large amounts of money by being sexually provocative but usually AREN’T considered to be sex workers.
Furthermore, it’s also worth noting how much of what we just described could be boiled down to getting sexual gratification from a disembodied voice or a screen. If you’re someone who has spent years conditioning yourself to get sexual rewards from pornography, phone sex, Instagram, or OnlyFans, how much of a downgrade is AI really? Granted, AI isn’t real, but how “real” do those women feel if that describes you? You don’t know them, and they don’t know you any more than you know the cashier at Wal-Mart. You pay them money and they provide you with a service, a service that AI and one day, sex robots, will be able to do much better.
The time is going to come very soon, maybe tomorrow or maybe in 3 to 5 years, when AI will be much more customizable and detailed to exactly what men want. Does the idea of having your three favorite female movie stars making out with you in a vat of whipped cream seem exciting? Cool, AI will be able to make a customized movie where that happens and as it gets better, it will be able to write the dialogue and come up with things about that scenario that you find particularly exciting that you wouldn’t have thought of yourself.
Oh, you can’t get a “real girlfriend?” Well, why would you want one anyway when you can have an AI girlfriend in a robot body that perfectly suits your tastes? Do you want a thin, hot 24-year-old Asian woman who’s stacked, has an Irish accent, thinks you are wildly attractive, and loves Star Wars, anime conventions, and Breaking Bad, just like you? Well, soon that will be doable. Furthermore, she likes you just the way you are, caters to you exactly the way you like it and when you’re tired of her, you can turn her off until you want her again!
What will all of this mean for humanity? It’s hard to say for sure, but it’s not impossible to say that if sex robots and AI get good enough, it could eventually threaten the viability of the species. Of course, it’s too early to say how that will play out, but what we can say is that the global population growth has already slowed up considerably:
In a world with AI and sex robots, the smart money should be on the human population dropping like a stone, particularly in advanced nations.
it is plain to see that when robots are realistic enough to sleep in your bed and have sex with you that the human race will go extinct.
why would you want a real woman (or man) when you could have someone who is perfect for you?
No nagging, no cheating, they will be open to anything, be enthusiastic sex partners and great companions.
you want sassy, you got sassy
want submissive? you got it!
want them to talk back?…will do
Rocky Morton and Anabel Jankel really hit a home run some 39 years ago with a little movie called "20 Minutes Into The Future" which introduced a character known as "Max Headroom," which was something of a cultural phenomenon for about 4 years before burning out and disappearing. It's eerie how prescient they were.
